Ernest Bailes:
A Businessman fighting for Rural Texas

February 26, 2018

As a businessman, Representative Ernest Bailes knows what it is like to create a successful business from the ground up in rural Texas. As a job-creator, he knows what it means to meet a payroll. He also understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. Bailes uses these business skills to make state government more efficient for the benefit of his constituents.

Representative Bailes also knows what it takes to fight for rural Texas. Having grown-up working cattle on his family’s farm, he understands hard work. After college, Bailes returned to his roots. These life experiences shape his outlook in the legislature. He understands rural Texas and now that big-city, special interests are trying to force mandates on rural Texas, Bailes is prepared to fight even harder.

As your representative, Bailes fights for conservative principles. True to his word, he kept the promises made during his campaign and made stopping illegal immigration a priority. Representative Bailes was a co-sponsor of the bill to end ‘Sanctuary Cities.’ This law prohibits local jurisdictions from preventing officers from upholding any part of an immigration law, including request to detain illegal immigrants to face deportation. The law gives enforcement officers additional tools to keep our communities safe and remove dangerous immigrants from our streets.

For Bailes, fighting for the most vulnerable of our society is a matter of faith. He is unequivocally pro-life and believes every child is a gift from God which is why he helped pass a law to ban partial-birth abortions. He voted to defund Planned Parenthood and fund women’s health programs from non-abortion providers with those same funds, proving he is a defender of Life and a champion of taxpayers.

Representative Bailes really shines, however, when it comes to working for our public schools. During the special session, Bailes voted to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow districts to provide tax relief to property owners. In addition, he fought to secure an additional $41 million for certain small schools in the final bill. He understands the importance of public schools and knows they are the lifeblood of rural communities. Bailes supported these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating his true fiscal conservative philosophy.

Ernest Bailes knows the big cities are trying to take control of the legislative agenda. The special interests want what is good for Houston and Dallas and force those same policies across the state. That is not conservative, and it is not good for rural Texas.

John Raney:
A Conservative Champion for Education Reform

February 26, 2018

Representative John Raney knows what it takes to be a small business owner. Having run a successful business for almost 50 years, he knows how to meet a payroll and create jobs—and what it means to serve the greater community around Texas A&M University. He has provided employment opportunities to generations of Aggies.

Because of these experiences, Representative Raney understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. His business acumen has taught Raney how to make state government more efficient, and he uses these skills in his role on the Appropriations Committee. This experience helped Representative Raney lead efforts cut millions of dollars in spending from the last budget and produce a balanced budget favorable to the taxpayers of Texas. That keeps more money in the pockets of conservatives and expands our economic freedoms across the state.

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Raney is a leader in the Texas House. He consistently votes to secure our borders from illegal immigrants. He demonstrates his culture of Life philosophy as he votes to protect unborn babies from abortions. And, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

Representative Raney really shines, however, when it comes to working for our public schools. During the first-called special session, Raney helped pass provisions to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow districts to provide tax relief to property owners. Raney helped add these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating he is a champion for taxpayers and students alike.

While these provisions are positive steps, legislators must continue to change the public-school finance system to institute real property tax reforms. These two issues are linked as local officials must raise local taxes when the state cuts its share of school finance needed to educate the growing student population. We can continue to argue about capping local taxes only when we fix the underlying problem and find a better way to pay for Texas public education. Representative Raney understands this critical relationship and will continue to work on systemic changes.

Representative Raney’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of supporting limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works every day to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

Paul Workman:
A Conservative Leader in the Texas House

February 26, 2018

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Paul Workman is a leader in the Texas House. He consistently votes to secure our borders from illegal immigrants. He demonstrates his culture of Life philosophy as he votes to protect unborn babies from abortions. And, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

As a businessman, Representative Workman knows what it is like to meet a payroll. His businesses have created hundreds of good-paying jobs in Travis County for the last three decades. He understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. Workman uses his business skills to make state government more efficient and work for our benefit instead of throwing up more regulatory restrictions that limit our prosperity.

Representative Workman is also a recognized as a defender of private property rights. Workman was an author of the bill passed last year to limit forced annexation by big cities in Texas. The effort was signed into law and gives people in the targeted area the right to vote on whether they want to be annexed into the city. This change protects much of Western Travis County from Austin’s land grabs and protects citizens from higher taxes. Forced annexation is un-Texan and Representative Workman will continue to push for changes to strengthen private property rights.

While we applaud Representative Workman’s efforts to protect property rights, he cemented conservative credentials as one of the authors of Texas’ new “Sanctuary Cities” law. This law enables local law enforcement to remove illegal criminal aliens and requires all law enforcement to comply with Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) requests. Removing the protection offered by Austin and other liberal cities, helps secure our border from illegal immigration.  This legislation has been praised nationwide for its effective, common sense approach to stopping human trafficking and drug smuggling across America’s southern border.

Representative Workman’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of supporting limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works everyday to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

Chris Paddie:
A Businessman Fighting for Our East Texas Values

February 26, 2018

As a businessman, Representative Paddie knows what it is like to grow a successful business and meet a payroll. His businesses have created numerous good-paying jobs across East Texas. He understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. Because of his business acumen, Paddie knows how to make state government more efficient and limit over regulation. This experience helped Representative Paddie lead efforts cut millions of dollars in spending from the last budget and produce a balanced budget favorable to the taxpayers of Texas. That keeps more money in the pockets of conservatives and expands our economic freedoms across the state.

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Paddie is a leader in the Texas House. He is consistently pro-life and voted to defund Planned Parenthood and ban partial-birth abortions. He believes every child is a gift from God and votes to protect unborn babies. Also, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. As life-long gun-owner, Chris is committed to keeping our families and possessions safe.

In addition to defending our homes, Representative Paddie is committed to securing our border from illegal immigrants. He was a co-sponsor of the bill to end ‘Sanctuary Cities.’ This law prohibits local jurisdictions from preventing officers from upholding any part of an immigration law, including request to detain illegal immigrants to face deportation. The law gives enforcement officers additional tools to keep our communities safe and remove dangerous immigrants from our streets.

Representative Paddie really shines, however, when it comes to working for our public schools. During the first-called special session, Paddie helped passed provisions to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow districts to provide tax relief to property owners. In addition, he fought to secure an additional $41 million for certain small schools in the final bill. He understands the importance of public schools and knows they are the lifeblood of rural communities. Paddie helped add these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating he is a champion for taxpayers and students alike.

While these provisions are positive steps, legislators must continue to make changes to the public-school finance system to institute real property tax reforms. As conservatives know all too well, school district taxes make up the largest portion of local tax bills. These two issues are linked as local officials must raise property taxes when the state cuts its share of school finances needed to educate all of our student population. While we can discuss local spending caps as a reform, the only way to reduce local property taxes in a meaningful way is to properly fund our public education system in Texas – including ending the provisions of the Robin Hood system. Representative Paddie understands this critical relationship and will continue to work on changes to the system.

Ken King:
A Conservative Leader in the Texas House

February 23, 2018

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Ken King is a leader in the Texas House. He consistently votes to secure our borders from illegal immigrants. He demonstrates his culture of Life philosophy as he votes to protect unborn babies from abortions. And, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

In addition to his leadership on these conservative issues, Representative King knows what it takes to fight for the Panhandle of Texas. He understands that even though the big Texas cities control much of the legislative agenda what is good for Dallas and Houston in not in the best interests of the high plains. His ability to fight for his district centers around his belief in local control and locally elected officials. He knows tying the hands of local officials in rural areas can lead to problems.

Representative King really shines, however, when it comes to working for our public schools. During the first-called special session, King helped passed provisions to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow districts to provide tax relief to property owners. In addition, Representative King fought to secure an additional $41 million for certain small schools in the final bill. He understands the importance of public schools and knows they are the lifeblood of rural communities. King helped add these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating he is a champion for taxpayers and students alike.

While these provisions are positive steps, legislators must continue to make changes to the public-school finance system to institute real property tax reforms. As conservatives know all too well, school district taxes make up the largest portion of local tax bills. These two issues are linked as local officials must raise property taxes when the state cuts its share of school finances needed to educate all our student population. We can continue to argue about capping local taxes only when we fix the underlying problem and find a better way to pay for public education in Texas. Representative King understands this critical relationship and will continue to work on changes to the system.

Representative King is a member of the newly created Texas Commission on Public School Finance. While we generally like action and not talk, the Coalition is hopeful this group of Texans can develop school finance solutions prior to the next legislative session. On the Commission, King is a voice for small and rural schools. As such, he will once again help develop ways to reform our school finance system and will continue to work in the best interests of taxpayers and school kids alike.

Four Price:
A Conservative Fighting for Limited Government

February 23, 2018

Representative Four Price is a leader in the Texas House. His conservative principles are rooted in the high plains of Texas and built on his life’s experiences in the Panhandle. He believes in faith, family, and the American Free Enterprise system. These pillars guide his decision-making and advocacy for limited government and individual responsibility.

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Price is a leader in the Texas House. He is unabashedly pro-life and voted to defund Planned Parenthood and ban partial-birth abortions. He believes every child is a gift from God and votes to protect unborn babies. Also, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms as guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. As a life-long gun owner, Price is committed to keeping our families and possessions safe.

In addition to his leadership on these conservative issues, Representative Price knows that local control is the best way to limit government. As a product of the Panhandle, he understands one-size-fits-all approaches will not and should not apply in Texas. He knows what may work in urban cities is not in the best interests of rural Texas and vice versa. His belief in local control and locally elected officials is a key conservative principle. He knows imposing mandates from Austin and tying the hands of local officials in rural areas can lead to problems.

Representative Price also understands the importance of our public-school system. He knows that a quality education is critical to the success of Texas. As a result, Price helped passed provisions to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow districts to provide tax relief to property owners. In addition, Representative Price fought to secure an additional $41 million for certain small schools in the final bill. He knows public schools are the lifeblood of rural communities. Price helped add these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating he is a champion for taxpayers and students alike.

Finally, Representative Price has made securing our borders top priority. He also has led efforts to include funding for increased law enforcement efforts along our southern border.

Representative Price’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works every day to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

Lynn Stucky:
Conservative Solutions to Benefit All Texans

February 23, 2018

As a businessman, Representative Lynn Stucky knows what it is like to meet a payroll. His veterinarian practice has created numerous good-paying jobs in Denton County for the last three decades. He understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. Dr. Stucky uses these skills to make state government more efficient for the benefit of his constituents.

As a devout Christian, Representative Stucky follows Christ’s teachings as he determines his positions on issues important to conservatives. This direction has already proven beneficial as he is already a recognized leader in the Texas House. Last session, he was voted as Most Valuable Freshman by organizations closely following the events in the Capitol.

On issues important to conservatives, Representative Stucky has kept the promises he made during his campaign. He made stopping illegal immigration his top priority and consistently voted to secure our borders.

As a former school board president, Representative Stucky knows the importance of our education system. He understands the importance of local control and knows schools are the lifeblood of our communities. Stucky helped passed provisions to add $150 million to the public-school finance system, which will allow local districts provide tax relief to property owners. He worked on these provisions without increasing taxes at the state level, demonstrating he is a champion for taxpayers and students alike.

As conservatives know all too well, school district taxes make up the largest portion of our local tax bills. These two issues are linked as local officials must raise local taxes when the state cuts its share of school finance needed to educate the state’s growing student population. While we can discuss local spending caps as a reform, the only way to reduce local property taxes in a meaningful way is to properly fund our public education system in Texas – including ending the provisions of the Robin Hood system. Representative Stucky understands this critical relationship and will continue to develop conservative solutions for the benefit of all Texans.

Representative Stucky’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works every day to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

Giovanni Capriglione:
A Conservative Leader in the Texas House

February 23, 2018

When you examine his votes on issues important to conservatives, Representative Giovanni Capriglione is a leader in the Texas House. He consistently votes to secure our borders from illegal immigrants. He demonstrates his culture of Life philosophy as he votes to protect unborn babies from abortions. And, few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment.

As a successful businessman, Representative Capriglione knows what it is like to meet a payroll and create good-paying jobs in Tarrant County. He understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities. His business acumen has taught Capriglione how to make state government more efficient.

Capriglione’s business experience helps him root out waste, fraud, and abuse in his role as Chairman of the Budget Reform and Transparency Subcommittee. His work helped cut millions of dollars in spending from the last budget. That keeps more money in the pockets of conservatives and expands our economic freedoms across the state. With Chairman Capriglione’s leadership, the legislature passed a balanced state budget which cut more than $200 million in spending from the prior budget cycle.

Representative Capriglione also supports the goals of the Coalition to increase government transparency. Last session, he authored a bill to increase accountability in government contracting. The bill creates a searchable database so information about contracts and who profits from those local and state contracts can be discovered by watchdogs. Not only does this increase government transparency, this new law is likely to cut government spending as new contracts will be leaner and free of ‘padding’ for the benefit of politically connected friends.

Finally, Representative Capriglione knows that property tax reform is key to the continued success of Texas. He understands we must fix our broken school finance system before we can reform our property tax system. He knows local officials increase our property taxes for schools every time the state cuts its share of the finance system. Chairman Capriglione understands this critical relationship and will continue to work toward solutions of the system.

Representative Capriglione’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of supporting limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works everyday to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

Scott Cosper:
Keeping His Promises, Fighting for Our Values

February 22, 2018

As a businessman, Representative Scott Cosper knows what it is like to meet a payroll. As a custom home-builder, he has created numerous good-paying jobs in Bell County. He understands how burdensome regulations increase costs and limit opportunities for families. Cosper uses these business skills to make state government more efficient. One example is his successful effort to restore more than $20 million in the state budget to Fort Hood and other installations to help defend against the negative impacts of the Base Realignment and Closure process, His skills are being noticed: he was recognized as the most powerful first-term representative by organizations closely following the events in the Capitol.

As a state representative, Cosper fights for conservative principles. He kept the promises made during his campaign and made stopping illegal immigration his top priority. He consistently voted to secure our borders. Representative Cosper was a co-sponsor of the bill to end ‘Sanctuary Cities.’ This law prohibits local jurisdictions from preventing officers from upholding any part of an immigration law, including request to detain illegal immigrants to face deportation. The law gives enforcement officers additional tools to keep our communities safe and remove dangerous immigrants from our streets.

Representative Cosper also knows how to fight for the families of service members who are deployed fighting for our conservative values. When the Fort Hood commanders asked Representative Cosper for help curtailing predatory lending practices on military families, he worked to pass a new law to stop the payday lenders from taking advantage of our troops. Because Representative Cosper acted to protect their families, our service members can fight to maintain our freedoms and conservative values with one less worry on their minds.

For Cosper, fighting for the most vulnerable of our society is a matter of faith. He is unequivocally pro-life and believes every child is a gift from God which is why he helped pass a law to ban partial-birth abortions. As a member of the Appropriations committee, he pushed to defund Planned Parenthood in the state budget and fund women’s health programs from non-abortion providers with those same funds, proving he is a defender of Life as well as a champion for taxpayers.

Representative Cosper’s philosophy is very simple and in line with our conservative principles of limited government and promoting personal and economic freedoms. He works every day to unleash the power of the free market and promote pro-business policies for Texas.

J.D. Sheffield:
A Country Doctor Brings Common Sense to Austin

February 22, 2018

As a self-described country doctor, Dr. Sheffield knows that treating the symptoms creates some short-term relief but does little to cure the illness. Fortunately for conservatives, he uses this same common-sense approach as a state representative. He would much rather act to fix the problem than talk about solutions down the road.

Representative Sheffield serves on the House Appropriations committee and works to ensure the state budget reflects our conservative values. He helped pass a balanced budget which cut more than $200 million in spending from the prior budget cycle. That keeps more money in the pockets of conservatives and expands our economic freedoms across the state.

His conservative values, however, are not limited to cutting spending. Representative Sheffield also works to ensure a culture of Life in the Texas House. He eliminated funding for Planned Parenthood while increasing funding for abortion-alternative providers in the last budget. He is unabashedly pro-life and believes every child is a gift from God which is why he helped pass a law to ban partial-birth abortions. As a Christian and physician, Representative Sheffield believes there is no higher calling than to protect the most vulnerable among us.

Another conservative principle guiding him are his beliefs in personal security. Few members are as supportive of our right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the 2nd Amendment. But, Representative Sheffield stands out when it comes to securing our borders. He worked to secure more than $840 million to the budget to add troopers and enforcement technology. He worked to fund new border checkpoints to stop drug dealers, human traffickers, and illegal weapons. He managed all of these efforts without increasing state taxes, proving he is a champion for taxpayers while he works to keep Texas safe.

Representative Sheffield was also a co-sponsor of the bill to end ‘Sanctuary Cities’ and provide law enforcement the tools needed to keep our communities safe. This law prohibits local jurisdictions from preventing officers from upholding any part of an immigration law, including request to detain illegal immigrants to face deportation.

Representative Sheffield is also a defender of faith. He was a co-author of the ‘Sermon Safeguard Act’ to protect the state’s clergy from subpoenas of a religious sermon in a civil suit or administrative proceeding. He also voted to extend protections to faith-based providers to care for abused and neglected children and to allow trained, licensed volunteers to serve as security in their places of worship.

Dr. Sheffield’s philosophy is simple: his faith and values of a country doctor help serve the people of rural Texas. These conservative principles guide his decision-making and make Texas a better place to live, work, and worship.
