Early Voting Information
Here’s what you need to know if you’re heading to the polls for early voting:
What to bring:
- Don’t forget your photo ID! Here’s acceptable forms of photo ID:
- Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
- Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
- Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
- Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
- United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
- United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
- United States Passport (book or card)
- Feel free to bring any voter assistance written materials, such as your sample ballot or notes.
What not to bring:
- No firearms are allowed at polling locations, unless you’re a licensed peace officer.
- You’ll have to leave your “Vote for Cruz,” hats, buttons, t-shirts, etc. in the car. Texas law states that if you’re within 100 feet of a polling place, you cannot wear insignia, emblems, etc. that relates to a candidate, measure, or political party appearing on the ballot.
- Political signs and literature aren’t allowed either because electioneering is forbidden within 100 feet of the polling place.
What to do:
- Go prepared! Make sure you’ve educated yourself on the candidates and issues. If you have any questions about what’s on the ballot, feel free to shoot us an email.
- Vote RED! Dems seem more energized than ever this year—your vote is needed for Texas to stay red!
What not to do:
- Don’t talk to other voters in line if you’re trying to tell them who or what to vote for—that’s considered unlawful at polling places. You can’t even gesture to them, pointing on your sample ballot about who you want them to vote for.
- You can’t be on the phone or take a selfie—cell phone use is prohibited within 100 feet of a polling place.
